Product Description

This is a Ford OEM transponder key for a 1997-2002 Ford Expedition cut to your key code. This key is guaranteed to be cut correctly using the key code you provide. The code series for this vehicle is 0001X-1706X, which means your key code will fall some where within this series. Ford included the key code with the original keys, and it might be stamped on one of the locks on the vehicle, but it's hidden so you need to remove the lock to see it. You can also check your owners manual to see if a previous owner wrote the key code in the manual, or check with your Ford dealership using the vehicles VIN to see if they can look up the key code for you.

Both sides of key have the Ford logo stamped in the bow or head as shown in the photo. This key is a transponder key, which means your vehicle must be configured to recognize the new key before it will start your vehicle. To configure your vehicle yourself to recognize the new key you must have two unique working transponder keys to do the OBP (On Board Programming). When I say the keys must be unique I mean one key can't be a clone of the other key. Your cars computer must see each key as two separate and unique keys. If you don't have two unique working keys, then you need somebody with a tool that plugs into your vehicles OBD2 port and allows them to configure your vehicles computer. Most automotive locksmiths and your Ford dealership can do this for you.

Here are the OBP instructions:

Add Key (requires two working keys):
1. Put a current key into the ignition.
2. Turn the ignition to ON, then back to the
OFF position.
3. Remove the key and insert a second key. Turn
it ON and back to the OFF position. You MUST do
this within five seconds.
4. Before ten seconds have elapsed, put a new key
in and turn the ignition ON. After one second,
turn the key back to the OFF position.
5. The dashboard security light will glow for three
seconds. This confirms the programming of the
new key has been successful.
